It was my pleasure to deliver a talk on Breast Reconstruction at Saint Peters University Hospital in New Brunswick last week. I spoke about “Flap Techniques in Breast Reconstruction” while my colleague and friend Dr Robert Herbstman discussed use of the “Tissue Expansion Technique”. The meeting was held on ‘BRA Day”, which stands for “Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day”, a nationally recognized day organized to raise awareness of techniques in breast reconstruction.
The meeting was attended by thirty people including physicians, nurses, and support staff. A competition was held in which individuals were encouraged to decorate a bra, combining artistic ability with a humorous or meaningful message. There were roughly twenty entries – all were excellent. Dr Herbstman and I together with two other members of the Saint Peters faculty judged the event. The top prize was awarded to a bra made from two attached hard hats with the attached caption, “Breast reconstruction Zone”!
The conference was meaningful and enjoyable. Hopefully it will continue as a yearly event.
