Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast Reduction Surgery is one of the most gratifying procedures that I perform as a plastic surgeon.  Not only does the procedure provide harmony and proportion to a woman’s body, but the surgery often serves to treat a myriad of symptoms attributable to large breast size.  These symptoms include back pain, Neck discomfort, shoulder pain, bra strap grooving, and rashes at the breast folds.

Typically I perform the surgery on an ambulatory basis, under general surgery.  Skin markings, used to guide the procedure, are made prior to surgery .  The operation not only involves the removal of excess breast tissue, but achieves a lift of each breast, raising each nipple/areola complex to a more aesthetic and youthful position on each breast mound.

Postoperative discomfort is minimal.  I prefer to place a drain (tube) at each breast , and remove them about four days following surgery.  Some swelling and bruising develops, and ordinarily resolves after about two weeks.

There are risks to any surgical procedure, such as bleeding or infection.  Poor circulation at either breast can lead to tissue loss, or breast hardness These complications, which seldom occur, are more common amongst smokers or diabetics.

Scars are designed to lie at aesthetically  acceptable areas at each breast, including around each areola, at each breast fold, and vertically, extending from the bottom of each areola to each breast fold.
